Volsun as a pioneer manufacturer, have been focusing on R&D, manufacture and sales of cold shrink tube for over 14 years. We often get a lots of questions of cold shrink tubing from customers. Therefore, we put together the FAQ's about cold shrink tubing as follows.

  1. What’s the shrink ratio of Volsun cold shrink tube ?
For silicone rubber cold shrink tube, the shrink ratio is 5:1;
For EPDM cold shrink tube, the shrink ratio is 3.5:1.

  1. What’s the lifespan of Volsun cold shrink tube ?
Volsun cold shrink tube will match the lifespan of the cable that it's protecting, usually, not less than 10 years.

  1. How do you remove the cold shrink tube after installed ?
Due to the high shrinkage ratio, the cold tube will be tightly wrapped in the cable (or something else) after installed, therefore, cold shrink tube should be removed with a blade or scissors.

        4. What’s the difference between cold shrink and heat shrink?
  1. Different material
Cold shrink tubes are made of rubber material, widely used in seal waterproof insulation protection of connectors in communication industry, power cable and other connection points.
Heat shrink tubes are mainly made of polyolefin material, widely used in electronics, machinery, communications and automotive manufacturing fields.

  1. Different technology
Cold shrink tube is a kind of rubber sleeve that expands in advance on the supporting core. When in use, just need to remove the support core after positioning.
Heat shrink tube is a product of specified size obtained by extrusion molding of high polymer or high polymer alloy, then heated and expanded after irradiation, and then cooled and finalized.

  1. Different cost and usage
Compared to the heat shrink tube, the cost of cold shrink tube is higher, but easy to install, has longer service lifetime.
